There are two types of quests within Sims Freeplay - main quests and discovery quests. I recommend completing all the main quests before you move onto the discovery quests.  But what's the difference between the two?

Main Quests 

These are the core quests that were in the game at the start and must be completed in order, for example you must complete the Breadwinner quest before you can complete Money Grows on Trees.  Main quests become available at certain levels as you progress through the game. They automatically begin as you reach the level which unlocks them. 

Discovery Quests  

These are quests that are added in to the game when Sims Freeplay update the game to provide us, the players, more content and new furniture, new locations, new experiences. Discovery quests are unlocked at a certain level just like the main quests but you can complete them at any time after that. An example would be the Puppy Odyssey quest which is available and unlocked from level 11 but once you reach level 11 it won't automatically begin - it will only begin if you go to the park and click on the puppy which appears at level 11.  You can only complete one discovery quest at a time.

Money Grows on Trees - (level 7) unlocks simoleon sprout and lifestyle point lotus plant

Love is in the Air - (level 7) unlocks marriage 

Two and a Half Sims - (level 8) unlocks babies

Ocean View Estate - (level 9) unlocks beach side premium houses

Mysterious Island - (level 10) unlocks the island and monuments

Raiders of the Lost Artifacts - (level 10) unlocks ability to find materials to build monuments

Need for Steed - (level 11) unlocks the stables and horses

A Quest for Toddlers - (level 12) unlocks toddlers

All Going Swimmingly - (level 13) unlocks swim centre and garden pools

Hidden Unicorn - (level 14) unlocks the showjumping hobby

In Da Clubhouse - (level 14) unlocks toddler hobby

Preparing for Preteens - (level15) unlocks preteens

Sous Judgemental - (level 16) unlocks the restaurant

An Alien Concept - (level 16) unlocks weather machine, snow park and winter clothing

Multi Story Renovations - (level 17) unlocks second and third floors

Teenagers - (level 18) unlocks teens

Higher Education - (level 19) unlocks education for teens

The Pirate and His Goddess - (level 19) unlocks pirate ship

The Road to Fame - (level 20) unlocks teens musical hobby

Adulthood  - (level 21) unlocks the ability to age teens to adults 

Ghost Hunters - (level 22) unlocks ghost hunting hobby and haunted items

Seniors - (level 23) unlocks seniors

Bird Feeding - (level 24) unlocks seniors hobby

In Stitches  - (level 24) unlocks senior hobby

Life Dreams & Legacies - (level 26) unlocks death and automatic ageing

Discovery Quests

Book of Spells - (must build sorcerous supplies on town map from level 8) unlocks spell casting hobby

Saved by the Spell - complete Book of Spells quest and click the wizard in the park

A Dance to Remember - click on the dancers in the park to begin this quest unlocks salsa dancing hobby

The Grooving Guru - build the health hub from level 9 to begin this quest. unlocks aerobics hobby

Nanny Knows Best - click on the nanny n the park to begin this quest

Vacationers Guide to the Outdoors - build the campgrounds from level 11 to begin this quest. unlocks campground content

The Sunset Mall - build the mall from level 12 to unlock this quest. unlocks mall content

Pretty Little Planters - build an escalator in the mall to begin this quest. unlocks a second floor to the mall

Super Toddler Secret Mission - click on the super hero toddler at the stables. unlocks finger painting hobby

Royal Lineage - build the castle from level 14 to unlock. unlocks castle content

DIY Homes : Peaceful Patios - talk to Bree the construction lady at the park to unlock from level 15. unlocks patios

DIY Homes : Lovey Dovey Balconies - talk to Bree at the community centre from level 17 after completing MultiStory renovations quest to unlock. unlocks balconies

DIY Homes : Basement of Kings - talk to Bree at the community centre after completing balcony quest to unlock. unlocks basements

Extreme Home Takeover - talk to the realtor in the park from level 11. unlocks ability to submit your houses for other players to build

A Puppy Odyssey - click on the puppy in the park from level 11. unlocks puppies and kittens

Simtown Express - build Sim Town express from level 15 and complete mysterious island quest to begin. unlocks downtown area and hospital profession workplace
Teachers Pet : build Downtown High in the Downtown area
Bump-y Ride - build the maternity store to begin. unlocks pregnancy.
